Building rebates are a great way to save money while also improving your building. Window films offer a perfect combination of stylish improvements coupled with energy saving rebates as well as reduction in your overall energy expenses. Here’s what you need to do in order to obtain an energy saving window film rebate.

What Energy Rebates are Available for Window Films?

So first, what types of films can provide you with an energy saving rebate? As of writing this post, there are 2 energy saving window film rebates available. Currently, you can take advantage of the following window film energy rebates:

  • Energy Efficiency Window Films. Applied to building windows to reduce heat loss in the winter and reduce heat gain in the summer. To qualify, window film must be installed on East, West, and South facing windows which lack pre-existing shading. Existing windows must not have window films already. The entire window pane must be covered with new window films. The proposed window film should have a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.40 or less or a shading coefficient (SC) of 0.45 or less. Incentives are available for retrofit application only and window films must be NFRC certified.
  • Anti-Fog Window Films. Typically applied to refrigerators and freezers. This rebate saves you $8 per square foot. Film must be 0.1 mm thick PET hydrophobic sheet with adhesive (R-value 0.00235). Saves energy through eliminating the need for door heaters and frame heaters.
